Digital Smile Design (DSD)

DSD is a collaborative planning tool that allows for enhanced predictability, and improves communication between dental providers and their patients. It is fundamentally based on the belief that each patient’s smile should be unique, based on their facial proportions.

Our practice uses videos, photographs, and temporary mock-ups, to get a better sense of the relationship between each patient's lips, gums, and teeth, as well as how they work together to create a beautiful, natural looking smile.

When our patients embark on a smile design journey, they will work closely with a provider who is more than just a dentist. Artistic vision is key, as well as the experience needed to give you the best outcome possible.

The process

With images imported within the DSD software, your dentist will be able to design the shape, color, size of teeth that match the rest of your facial dimensions. The design created will give you a glimpse into what you can expect, as well as give lab technicians what is needed to create a physical model.

Throughout the design process, you will be heavily involved communicating your wants and needs to your dental smile designer. You’ll also approve the three-dimensional model and mock-up images of what your smile will look like after the treatment is complete. For more value-add, your dentist will place a wax version in your mouth to give you a better idea of what your teeth will look like as you speak and smile.

In the process of restoring your smile, the mock-up serves as a preparation guide. Teeth are typically restored with porcelain veneers and/or crowns, one tooth at a time.
